Albert Franz Nether, Brazilian horseman
shares pictures of his rides and western gear in Brazil.

We periodically feature a western horse, horseman, or horsewoman in this area.  Submissions are welcomed.

Here's a few sample pictures of Brazilian Cowboy (actually this is me)....  It's a gift to your website as an appreciation for all the knowledge I found  in your great page!  As you'll see, the Brazilian cowboy culture is not so different of the American one.  I hope You like it!
I take pictures of most of the rides I do. And those first 3 ones were taken near my father-in-law's farm. It's about 23km (14miles) from the city of Montes Claros (Minas Gerais State - Brazil).

The western riding gear that I have is 11 years old. It's a hand made American calf-roping saddle. My first one, made by a buddy from here. A little curiosity: this saddle has been stolen once and I got it back after 3 months, hidden in a bush, full of bites, probably by some mouse. So I worked hard to repair it.
The common used gear in my country is very diverse, it depends of location, application and personal preferences. My predilection is the American gear, cause it takes me not only to another place. While I'm riding... it takes me also to another time. To the real cowboy's time, and makes me dream about the old west!
I got a great friend here... my horse Rarus, the appaloosa in my pictures.. I often ride more than 50km (31-32 miles) in a day with him, and at the end of the trail, he's still wanting to ride a little more... it's amazing!
I always keep 3 things on my saddle: a large and heavy knife, a kind of machete to cut the bushes on the way, a little flash-lamp just in case I back home in the dark of night, and the most important gear I carry on is a cooler saddle bag where I find some ice cold beer, right in the middle of nowhere, specially if the ride occurs on the hot Brazilian summer...

T
his is another picture from my "buckarooing" in Brazil... The Brazilian Eagle of Freedom, over the cattle fence... This one was taken in a single moment chance, with my cell-phone camera.
